We’re excited to offer you more ways to save on your power bill

Customers who have access to Nova Scotia Power’s MyEnergy Insights will now get personalized energy efficient solutions from Efficiency Nova Scotia to lower their energy consumption. Simply go to the My Recommendations tab in MyEnergy Insights to find tips, information on programs, and rebates offered by Efficiency Nova Scotia to help you save energy.

A select number of customers will also see an Efficiency Insights tab within MyEnergy Insights, which enables you to compare your energy usage with similar houses in Nova Scotia, providing you with a better understanding of your consumption and offering personalized energy efficiency tips to help you reduce costs.

Our goal is to guide Nova Scotians towards lower energy usage and greater savings.

We developed these reports to provide personalized insights on your energy usage and provide you with guidance on finding the best Efficiency Nova Scotia programs to meet your home’s needs.

Your home was not selected to be part of Efficiency Insights at the moment; however, we  plan to revise our participant list again early next year, and you may be included to receive reports at that time.

Efficiency Insights is a new feature that compares your energy usage to similar homes in Nova Scotia. You can find Efficiency Insights when you log in to MyEnergy Insights through your Nova Scotia Power online account (MyAccount) and click on Energy Insights. The Efficiency Insights tab will be displayed in the second menu. These insights will help you to better understand your energy usage and offer personalized energy efficiency tips to help you reduce costs.

In addition to receiving Nova Scotia Power’s MyEnergy Insights notifications, such as billing period summary reports and high usage alerts, you will also receive an Efficiency Insights report from Efficiency Nova Scotia . The report will help you see how you compare to similar homes in your area. Your report will be provided by mail. If you are signed up with Nova Scotia Power’s My account, you will also receive your report via email. Through this report, you will also gain access to personalized energy savings offers from Efficiency Nova Scotia.

You will receive up to six printed reports. If you are signed up with Nova Scotia Powers’ My Account, you will also receive reports via e-mail three days after you receive your billing period summary from Nova Scotia Power. Two of your paper reports will include seasonal information to give you even more insights before the heating and cooling months.

Electrically efficient homes are the highest performing homes in Nova Scotia, ranking within the top 30% in terms of electrical efficiency compared to similar less-efficient homes in the province.

You may access the tools available in your Efficiency Insights report at any time through MyEnergy Insights in your Nova Scotia Power online account.

  • Navigate to the ‘Energy Insights’ tab and click on ‘Efficiency Insights’ for an in depth look at your energy use and your similar home comparison.
  • Click on the ‘My Recommendations’ tab located next to ‘Energy Insights’ to review tailored energy efficiency tips to help you save money by using energy more efficiently.

From there, you can gain a more in depth look at your similar home comparison information, update or complete your home survey to make your future reports more accurate, and review My Recommendations which are tailored energy efficiency tips that pertain to your personal energy use.

We determine what homes are like yours using several factors including square footage, the home heating type and the postal code.

The data displayed in MyEnergy Insights uses measurements from your smart meter to determine your energy use. It’s estimated to be 80-90% accurate for most customers. To improve the accuracy of your energy use, we encourage you complete your home survey. This is found in the main menu of MyEnergy Insights, click on “Survey”, and answer a few questions about your home to complete this step.

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a universal unit of measure for electricity use. One 100-watt incandescent light bulb left on for 10 hours consumes one kWh of electricity (100 watts x 10 hours = 1,000 watt-hours = 1 kWh).

No. These reports are for your use alone. All the comparison information is compiled anonymously to create your report. Your personal information and home characteristics are not shared with others.

The dollar amounts you see in the similar home comparison graph do not include taxes, fixed charges, rebates or credits. This is why they may differ from the dollar amounts you see on your power bill.

No, the similar homes comparison does not reveal your specific electricity usage to your neighbors, nor is your personal information being shared with your neighbors. Personal information collected and used for this service was done per the Efficiency Nova Scotia’s Privacy Policy.
