Four Custom Programs to Help Reduce Your Business's Energy Use

Learn about our four main Custom Programs and access applications, guides and checklists

Our Custom Programs can help reduce your business’s energy use with technical assistance and financial support – up to 50% of the project cost! We offer up to $750,000 to help with the cost of engineering studies, energy efficient equipment and installation in these four main areas:

Retrofit

Ideal for:

  • Existing buildings, no matter the age.
  • Larger more complex measures, involving technology, equipment, and system improvements.
  1. Connect with your Business Development Manager (BDM) to discuss your project. If you don’t already have a BDM that you’re working with, email us at info@efficiency.ca and tell us a little bit about your project. We’ll connect you with the appropriate person.
  2. Fill out the appropriate Retrofit Project Application form with your customer and submit to your Business Development Manager.
  3. Retrofit Project Application – With Feasibility Study Incentive.
Retrofit Project Application – Without Feasibility Study Incentive.
  4. Our team will review the application and confirm eligibility. If you’re also applying for Feasibility Study (FS) funding, we’ll also confirm that it fits within the program and the incentive available. At this point you’ll be assigned a Project Engineer at Efficiency Nova Scotia who will be your contact for the remainder of the project.
  5. Once confirmed, conduct a FS to determine the proposed measures, including energy and cost savings, costs associated with the measures, and the measure and verification plan.
  6. Submit completed FS to your Project Engineer (PE). The PE will then review and ask any questions if needed.
  7. When the FS is approved, your PE will provide the Custom Project Agreement (CPA) to the customer for review.

Building Optimization

Ideal for:

  • Existing buildings that have a Building Automation System (BAS) and have not been recommissioned in the last three years.
  1. Connect with your Business Development Manager (BDM) to discuss your project. If you don’t already have a BDM that you’re working with, email us at info@efficiency.ca and tell us a little bit about your project. We’ll connect you with the appropriate person.
  2. Fill out the Building Optimization Investigation Application and submit to your Business Development Manager
  3. Our team will review the application and confirm eligibility. If you’re also applying for Investigation Study funding, we’ll also confirm that it fits within the program and the incentive available. At this point you’ll be assigned a Project Engineer at Efficiency Nova Scotia who will be your contact for the remainder of the project.
  4. Once confirmed, conduct an IS to determine the proposed measures, including energy and cost savings, costs associated with the measures, and the measure and verification plan.
  5. Submit completed IS to your Project Engineer (PE). The PE will then review and ask any questions if needed.
  6. When the IS is approved, your PE will provide the Custom Project Agreement (CPA) to the customer for review.
  7. Once the customer receives the Custom Project Agreement summarizing the project, they’ll need to review, sign and return the agreement to start implementation.
Once all measures have been installed, complete the measurement & verification (M&V) plan to confirm savings and submit final report to PE.

  • Major renovations.
  1. Connect with your Business Development Manager (BDM) to discuss your project. If you don’t already have a BDM that you’re working with, email us at info@efficiency.ca and tell us a little bit about your project. We’ll connect you with the appropriate person.
  2. Work with your Energy Modeling Consultant to fill out the Energy Modelling Incentive Application and submit to nc@efficiencyns.ca. Our team will review and approve the application and confirm the study incentive availability.
  3. Your Modeling consultant will then work with the Project Design team to assess design options and submit preliminary energy models to nc@efficiencyns.ca.
  4. Once approved, we’ll prepare a Custom Project Agreement (CPA), upon receipt of signed agreement the study incentive is paid out and construction may begin.
  5. Nearing project completion, we’ll complete a site visit and work with your Energy Modeling Consultant to verify any design changes and submit as-built energy models.
  6. We’ll then review and approve as-built models and pay out incentive.

Pay for Performance

Ideal for:

  • Deeper savings.
  • Multiple upgrades in one single transaction.
  • Participants looking to improve their building as they see fit.
  1. For approved Pay for Performance Consultants, submit the Pay for Performance (P4P) Project Application for an initial eligibility screening. Once approved, complete and submit a baseline period model report to Efficiency Nova Scotia. Not an approved P4P Consultant? Email cicustom@efficiencyns.ca to get started.
  2. Your customer will receive a P4P Custom Project Agreement summarizing the project, estimated electrical energy savings and measurement & verification (M&V) plan to review, sign, and return.
  3. Start to implement your energy efficiency measures outlined in your project agreement. The implementation period is up to 12 months.
