New Home Research Project Terms and Conditions
- Homes must be in Nova Scotia but outside the excluded urban Halifax catchment area.
- The home occupancy permit date must be within six months of the date that the Energid home evaluation is performed for the New Home Research Project. A copy or photo of the occupancy permit will be taken by the Natural Resources Canada Licensed Service Organization as part of the registration process.
- The following types of single-family homes are permitted: detached, semi-detached, townhouses, and rowhouses.
- The following types of homes are excluded: multi-unit buildings, such as apartments and stacked units; manufactured and mobile homes largely constructed away from the home site; homes without permanent foundations; and mixed-use buildings that are less than 50% residential.
- Note: Some two-unit buildings, such as homes with a separate suite, may be eligible if there is an interior unlocked doorway connecting the two units. If this situation may apply, prospective participants should contact one of the Service Organizations to confirm eligibility.
- Note: Efficiency Nova Scotia and its Service Organizations may prohibit home builders from enrolling multiple homes with matching or similar plans to avoid duplication that Efficiency Nova Scotia does not consider beneficial to this research project.
- Homes must be capable of year-round occupancy.
- Homes must be categorized as a residential property as defined under Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada 2020. Homes must be no more than three stories high and have a footprint of not more than 600 m2 (approximately 6,458 ft2).
- Home builders, homeowners and First Nations Bands may enroll homes.
- Participants agree to share all EnerGuide home energy evaluation details with Efficiency Nova Scotia and/or their third-party representatives and/or the builder of the participating home.
- Efficiency Nova Scotia fully supports employees and contractors who refuse unsafe work. Our partners, at their discretion, may reschedule EnerGuide home energy evaluations to avoid conditions they deem unsafe.
- Participants agree to participate in site visits from Efficiency Nova Scotia and/or their third-party representatives, as requested, for quality assurance and evaluation purposes.
- Efficiency Nova Scotia reserves the right to end the program at any time or modify or cancel program participation.
- Efficiency Nova Scotia reserves the right to alter program eligibility at any time, at its discretion, to best meet the objectives of the New Home Research Project.
